In Maharashtra, India, a record number of children were infected with the coronavirus in May.  Experts say the third wave could be even more frightening for children.

The rate of corona infection among children in the state is on the rise.  According to the Department of Health, corona has been identified in the bodies of 34,046 children under the age of 10 from May 1 to 26.  On May 1, the number of children affected by corona in Maharashtra was 1 lakh 36 thousand 57.  And on May 26, this number stood at 1 lakh 83 thousand 70.  On May 1, 3 lakh 11 thousand 455 people between the ages of 11 and 20 were infected with corona.  On May 26, the number of infected patients in this age group stood at 3 lakh 96 thousand 26.

Sunil Junagarh, a pediatrician at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in India, said children are more resistant to disease than adults.  Therefore, the risk of children's lives is relatively low in this case.  So there is no reason for parents to worry about the news of children being infected with corona.  Babies are vaccinated immediately after birth, so they are more protected, he said.  The lockdown has kept children at home, and their immunity has increased as a result of not eating out.

However, children under the age of 18 are less likely to be infected as they will not be vaccinated now.  Therefore, the state government has started taking advance preparations for the medical treatment of children.  To protect children from infection, the government has started construction of ‘Child Covid Center’.  And a ‘Pediatric Task Force’ is being formed for the treatment of children.

According to specialist doctors, children need special care for the third wave of corona.  Specialist doctors believe that it is important to pay special attention to the symptoms of viral infections, colds, fevers, coughs, diarrhea and not eating milk and food in children.
