The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has said that two doses of the vaccine could provide protection against the delta strain of coronavirus (Covid-19), which was first detected in India. The company said in a statement on Thursday. This was mentioned in an AFP report.
The new type of corona Delta could create a third wave of corona in European countries āĻ the EMA said in a statement following a warning from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Marco Cavalleri, head of the EMA's vaccine strategy division, said: "At the moment, the four EU-approved vaccines seem to be protecting against other types of corona, including delta, which is spreading across Europe."
Vaccines from Pfizer, Bioentech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson have been approved in Europe. Marco Cavalli added: "Data from around the world have shown that two doses of the vaccine protect against delta type."
He also said that vaccine manufacturers have been advised to find out how effective the vaccine is against other new types of corona, including Delta Plus.
Laboratory tests have shown that antibodies to the vaccine can prevent coronary heart disease. Marco Cavalli called the news "reassuring."
Meanwhile, as EU countries have begun immunization programs more vigorously, the WHO has again raised new concerns. They say that after a two-month decline in infection, it is on the rise again in European countries.
Delta infections are spreading again in European countries after alpha-type infections from the United Kingdom came under control. This is the reason for the rise in the number of infections, the WHO said.
