Kidney is an essential organ of human body.  On the back of the upper abdomen are two bean-shaped kidneys on either side of the spine.  Its main function is to expel unnecessary wastes from the body through urine.  Again, by absorbing the necessary minerals, it reaches the blood and maintains the balance.  However, due to various reasons, the function of the kidneys is reduced.  Some diseases get better.  Again, some diseases are never cured.  One such is kidney cancer.

 Causes of kidney cancer

Smoking, being overweight, high blood pressure, if someone in the family has a history of cancer can cause this cancer.  People exposed to environmental factors such as arsenic, asbestos, chloro-ethylene and other chromium compounds have a relatively higher risk of kidney cancer.  People with chronic kidney disease, who have to undergo dialysis, also have a higher risk of kidney cancer.

 Symptoms

The risk of kidney cancer is generally higher in people in their forties.  This risk increases with age beyond 50 or 60.  Weakness, anemia, loss of appetite, blood in the urine, back and waist pain are some of the symptoms of this cancer.  As soon as these appear, a doctor's advice should be taken.

If the cancer has spread to other organs, new types of symptoms will appear.  For example, when cancer spreads to the lungs, blood goes with the cough and chest pain can occur.  Again, if spread to the brain, the patient may experience headaches, vomiting, and even convulsions and fainting.  If it spreads to the bones, it can cause pain and fractures.  Therefore, it is necessary to provide quick treatment in these cases.

To diagnose kidney cancer, the doctor recommends blood tests, ultrasonography, CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, IVUs, CT-guided FNAC or FNAB tests as needed.

 Treatment

Treatment of kidney cancer depends on the size, extent and extent of the disease and the histopathology report.

Radical surgery, nephron sparing surgery, immunotherapy, biological therapy, targeted therapy, chemotherapy, etc. are used to treat this problem.  The doctor prescribes the treatment depending on the condition of the patient and the stage of the cancer.

Other treatments include cryotherapy, radiofrequency ablation and trans-arterial embolization.  Sometimes radiotherapy treatment is also given.

 Resistance

It is possible to stay free from cancer through healthy lifestyle.  In this case, the risks of cancer should be avoided.  Smoking, unhealthy foods, exposure to harmful chemicals including arsenic should be avoided.  Eat a healthy and nutritious balanced diet.  Vegetables and fresh fruits should be included in the diet.  You have to do physical work and exercise.  Hygiene must be maintained, high blood pressure and diabetes must be controlled.
