Of these, 11 Bangladeshis stranded in India and 18 Indian nationals from Bangladesh have returned to their respective countries.  In the last four days, 50 Indian nationals have returned to their homeland.

According to immigration sources at the Akhaura land port, 11 Bangladeshi nationals stranded in India returned home on Friday.  Four of them were sent to the Army Quarantine in Dhaka Cantonment, two to the Narsingdi General Hospital Quarantine, one to the Government Hospital Quarantine in Sylhet, three to the Institutional Quarantine in Akhaura and one to the Home Quarantine.

Passengers have been coming and going through Akhaura land port for a long time.  But stranded citizens in both countries are able to travel by following certain guidelines.

According to Akhaura Immigration sources, 50 Indian nationals have returned to their homeland in the last three days out of 63 sent by the Indian High Commission, Bangladesh Home Ministry and Foreign Ministry.  In the last three days, 49 Bangladeshi nationals stranded in India have returned home.

According to the Health Desk of Akhaura Land Port, on April 22, Foreign Minister AKM Abdul Momen issued a directive that Bangladeshi nationals stranded in India could enter the country through the land port.  In this case, the minister imposed some restrictions.  These are to ensure 14 days of institutional quarantine for returning citizens by the concerned local administration.  Among Bangladeshi nationals who have taken two doses of Covid Ticker and have obtained Covid Negative Certificate, they will be directly considered for 14 days Home Quarantine.  Incoming Bangladeshi nationals who have taken a dose of Covid Ticker or have not taken any dose and have a Covid Negative Certificate will be sent to a three-day compulsory institutional quarantine.  After that, if the result of Covid test is negative, they will compulsorily observe home quarantine for the next 11 days.  The local administration will ensure this.

According to immigration sources at Akhaura land port, the movement of ordinary passengers has been closed for a long time.  However, Indian nationals stranded in Bangladesh and Bangladeshi nationals stranded in different parts of India for treatment from Bangladesh will be able to cross the Akhaura-Agartala border.  In that case permission of Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India will be required.  Who will need NOC, meaning no-objection letter.  At present, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs of Bangladesh have sent a list of 63 Indian nationals to Akhaura Immigration to go to India through Akhaura land port.  Of the 63 people on the list, 16 returned home last Tuesday, nine on Wednesday, six on Thursday and 18 on Friday morning and afternoon.  Among the citizens stranded in India, 6 Bangladeshis returned home on Tuesday, 18 on Wednesday, 14 on Thursday and 11 on Friday afternoon.

Recently, it was seen that a health desk of the health department has been set up at the immigration office of Akhaura land port.  A doctor and a health official sat at the health desk inside the tin and glass. They check the health of passengers from both countries.  They usually check whether the citizens of both the countries have any problem related to body temperature, cold, fever, cough and allergies.
